A. You should be able to just look at the shelves and get the pricing yourself withour asking anyone there. You'll need to know how many squares you need for your job. Then figure how many corner posts and figure for j-channel and starter strip. Need coil stock for wrapping windows too? Siding can vary in price. Depends on the brand and the quality. SOme of the cheaper stuff, plain white may run you about$50-$60 per square. Then it can up from there. Just figure your walls flat (don't deduct for any doors or windows). One box of siding covers 2 squares of wall space or 200 sq ft. Hope any of this helped. Good Luck.

which vinyl siding is the best in insulated vinyl sidings? I have several options and got confused.?
Q. I am having confusion for choosing vinyl siding. Many contractors suggest to put a small foam bord in place of insulation, after they wrap the wall with tywek. The vinyl siding manufactorors' websites boasts about the insulated vinyl sidings on their energy savings. The cost is a big factor if I choose to use the insulated vinyl sidings. I compared heart-land, alside, crane, and polar - wall. Any guidence will be useful.

A. Look at the r value rating, the higher the number the better the insulating value, the other option is to use non insulated, but before you do that, tyvec wrap, and foam panels foiled both sides, tape all seams with foil tape seal top and bottom, foil foam comes in many different thickness, it works real well and is worth the money, adjust your material to what you can afford, or go for the best and do a side at a time as you can afford it.

What causes vinyl siding to keep unlocking?
Q. What causes vinyl siding to not stay locked? Could it be a damaged piece somewhere, a crooked wall? Also how can i solve this problem.
Asked by blueyam1234 - Sun Sep 16 08:38:10 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You must be in a climate that has large temperature fluctuations over the course of the year. It is very likely that the installation took place during a cold or hot time of the year and the installer either pulled the siding too much with nails during hot season or did not pull enough during installation in cold season. Siding works all year, it expands and shrinks based on the temperature it is exposed to. Someone will need to remove a row or two of your siding where it unsnaps and compensate for it. Not a difficult process but unless you know how to unsnap siding in the middle of the wall and which way to move the pressure I would not do it yourself. Good Luck

How to attach a ledger to vinyl siding?
Q. Hi--I am building a pergola and am attaching it to the house. I am planning on attaching it to the part of the house with vinyl siding (a little lower its brick--but very uneven bricks so I think it will be easier with the siding) So what I'm wondering is, do I remove the siding where I want to attach the ledger board, or do I just go directly onto the siding?
Asked by eddie money - Mon Jul 28 21:50:32 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I would remove the vinyl. J-Channel around your supports that attatch to your house. Use trim coil in spots that j-channel will not work. After you get your pergola complete all the siding must move freely on the wall. Any restriction in the panel will cause it to oil-can (bubble) and can negate any warranty you may have. Good luck...

Will insurance companies ever pay to replace vinyl siding on the whole house?
Q. We had a tree that was hit by lightening and damaged the vinyl siding on 2 sides of the house when it fell. Our siding has been discontinued and I don't believe anyone makes 8" vinyl siding any longer. The insurance company only wants to pay for the sides that were damaged. I can't have two different sizes of siding on my house so I think the insurance company should pay to have the siding replaced on the whole house. Is this unreasonable?

My window air conditioner dripped outside and left rust stains down our vinyl siding - I just tried power washing it with siding cleaner and I also used a Mr. Clean Magic eraser; neither worked all the way - it may be stained in to the siding. How do I protect my vinyl siding from my grill?
Q. My balcony isn't very big, so I can only give my vinyl siding about 2 feet from the back of my grill. Is there a heat shield or something I can buy to make sure I don't melt the vinyl? Would I attach it to the wall or over the back of the grill?
Asked by Joe F - Mon Jul 7 23:34:45 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Well, the BEST solution would be to move the grill away from the house. I know I've had to replace enough siding for folks who were careless about where they put their grills, hehehe. Yes, I realize you say your balcony isnt very big... is this really the only location you can put your grill? Give some serious thought to rolling it out in the yard, or driveway when you want to use it. If youve got vinyl siding, you've probably got vinyl soffet... heat rises... you're quite likely to melt the soffet, or start a fire. Now... with all of that said, and not knowing just how much room you've got or the layout... I'd advise against attaching anything to the grill itself, because it could make the grill top heavy, and likely to tilt over at… [cont.]

What is the easiest way to install vinyl siding on a 2 story house?
Q. I am going to be removing the vinyl siding on my house to repair and replace some of the sheathing behind it, as the contractor used 1/2" blue foam insulation instead of OSB, per N.C. code. I need to know what is the best and safest way to reach the 2nd floor area and gable. Ground to peak is about 30 feet. Anyone have suggestions for what they use on new construction of homes?

A. Definitely rent the scaffolding, or rent a lift basket unit. Trying to work off a couple of ladders is not safe. It is worth the cost for safety.

Q. Pieces of the vinyl siding on our 18 month old home keep blowing off on one side of our house during high winds. No one else's home is affected in our cul-de-sac. Just ours. Please forgive my ignorance when it come to vinyl siding. I don't know what kind of abuse it's made to take.

A. Sounds like the wrong length nails were used. When installing vinyl siding, you need to leave the siding loose enough to expand and contract. This requires a bit longer nail since you still need it secured to the sheathing. Most installers leave 1/16 gap between the nail head and the siding.

When replacing aluminum siding with vinyl siding is the old siding removed first?
Q. I plan to replace the aluminum siding on my house and replace it with vinyl siding. I am wondering if the old siding is removed and new foam insulating sheets are placed prior to the vinyl... Is it difficult to remove the aluminum siding?
Asked by Mmm - Mon Dec 15 19:28:24 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. yes, remove the old siding. It's really not hard to get off plus you can turn it in for cash as long as it is aluminum. The price is quite good now for it. That will help you out quite a bit towards your new foam sheeting that you put up first. Call any recycling place to find out how they take the aluminum.

A. I wouldn't blast water right onto the connection, but it should be sealed to the weather. So you should be able to go right up to the wire. But in saying that once you get close, rubber gloves and rubber boots might be wise.

What is your tried way of cleaning vinyl siding?
Q. We having vinyl siding in which it is shaded until about 3 in the afternoon. Just wondering what anyone has used to clean theirs and does bleach work or will it dry out the siding?
Asked by djnp - Mon Nov 20 10:22:00 2006 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I pour bleach in a pump sprayer, like one of those at Lowes, you can get to spray bugs (about $10.00) fill it up, pump and pull the trigger. I'll spray one side of house, then rinse with water hose that has a sprayer on it. Or you can use a pressure washer after you spray house. I do this about every summer. It doesn't hurt the siding.
