Up to how long will it take for a Mallard duck to hatch eggs?
Q. I noticed a duck sitting on a nest close to my front walk about a month ago. I thought she should've hatched her eggs by now. It's probably been about 30 days since I noticed the last one. Is the 28 days just approxiamate. And is there any specific time of day they might hatch?
Asked by jen c - Fri May 16 11:39:18 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If you find a Mallard's nest on your property and don't see the mother on the eggs, don't necessarily worry. Ducks lay an egg every day or two until they have a full clutch (usually 8 to 15); only then will the mother start to sit on them. It takes the eggs 28 days to hatch from when she starts sitting all the time. When they hatch, she will soon lead them to a nearby body of water. The father takes no part in caring for the eggs or young.

Do farmers let you hatch eggs from your own house?
Q. I like chickens and i was wondering if farmers let you hatch some of their eggs. And when they hatch i could give the eggs back. sorry i made a mistake meant give the farmers the chicks back.
Asked by . - Mon May 11 20:44:09 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Without a hen to sit on the eggs, you will need to purchase a brooder to keep the eggs warm for 21 days. The eggs need to be turned frequently. If the eggs have not been fertilized by the rooster before the hen lays them, they will not hatch. Unless this is a small farm, chicken raising is done inside, and most of the eggs will not be fertile eggs. Why don't you just go visit the farm with your folks, and spend some time watching the chickens.

Can cockroach eggs hatch without the mother taking care of them?
Q. Chicken eggs need the mother to keep the eggs warm in order for them to be able to hatch. What about cockroach eggs? Can they hatch without the mother keeping the eggs warm? I found a few cockroaches in my home and I'm concern they (if they were females) might have left some eggs behind.
Asked by Dee Dee - Mon Jun 2 01:29:05 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Not only cockroaches but all insect and reptile eggs do not need the mother to warm them .They can hatch being warmed by ambient temperature. This is why insects lay far more many eggs than birds, hopefully that some of them can hatch. The only mother care is protection from predators.

When Cichlid eggs hatch do the little baby fish fight with each other?
Q. Well I have 2 Cichlid fish and they just layed eggs and I am wondering when the eggs will hatch and if the baby fish will fight with each other. I also want to know what to feed them.
Asked by Musical Girl - Sun Dec 14 22:07:38 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. What species of fish you have? It's generally more helpful if you list by species instead of saying cichlid. Most cichlids themselves are not really egg layers as much as there are mouthbrooders, but some do lay eggs yes. I am thinking you have some kind of South or Central American? When hatching, depending on tank size, I would say generally, no they won't fight too much at that time. You will see usually though, the ones that grow out faster are the males, and this aids in sexing fry early on. It's not 100% accurate, but more like 70-80. After about 3-4 weeks of growth, and if the tank is rather small, you'd probably see the onset of aggression among the males at that time. Feeding fry, I generally feed mine de-capsulated shrimp… [cont.]

Will brine shrimp eggs hatch in my freshwater aquarium?
Q. i have one pack of shrimp eggs and i don't know what to do with them. i was thinking of just emptying the contents in my aquarium but i want them to hatch and do not want to buy the shrimpery container.
Asked by greenmiamicat - Fri Oct 19 16:40:48 2007 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments
A. They need to have saltwater for the best hatch rate. There's probably salt in the container if you bought the small bags. If you bought the tubes, there won't be. You don't need a "hatchery" to raise them. The first time I hatched them, I used a plastic bowl (like the golfish bowls) that was over a liter in size, and used an airpump with an airstone. They hatched, and I raised them to adults. You could also use an clean soda bottle or large clear vase. If you don't have the type with added salt, add a Tablespoon of non-iodized salt to 2 cups of conditioned water (chlorine and chloramine can kill the baby shrimp). Sea salt is preferred, but I have hatched them using just rock salt.

How long does it take for crab eggs to hatch?
Q. My uncle has a box of bait crabs and there are two crabs that are pregnant, and i was wondering how long it will be before the eggs hatch.
Asked by xjustxsmilex - Sat Jul 11 22:06:07 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Climate change may affect crab hatching Hatching was significantly delayed at colder temperatures with about a 46-day difference from 2.3 C to 6.1 C. Length of development was related to temperature via a power function, and ranged from 410 8 days at 6.1 C to 434 11 days at 2.3 C. Length of hatching increased from 40 4.6 days at 2.3 C to 55 6.2 days at 6.1 C. A model for predicting hatching dates from an eye index was developed using a quadratic equation. Embryo development at 4.3 and 6.1 C was arrested between weeks 35 and 50; this evidence, plus other behavioral observations, suggests that crabs may be able to adjust development rates to partially compensate for temperature changes

A. You'll find it very difficult to get much accurate info on the 'net...I already tried. Here's what I have learned from breeding and raising my own ghost shrimp. Once you see the eggs (green to start), you have about 21 days until they are released into the tank. The eggs will get bigger and turn greenish/brown along the way. During the last couple of days, the eggs will be clear, except for some black dots where the eggs used to be. These are hatched ghost shrimp (still attached to mom). The black dots are their stomachs full of food. When you notice the eggs get big and brownish in color, put the mom in a breeding net with some plants (about day 18 or so). Do not put the shrimp in with your fry, they will eat them. Keep an eye on the… [cont.]

How long does it take until a mother goose's eggs hatch?
Q. Down at our pond we have two geese, obviously a mother and a father, and they have made a nest consisting three eggs, its been about 2 or more weeks since the eggs were laid, and i want to know how much longer until they hatch or if they could be dead?

A. A goose's eggs will hatch in 30 to 35 days. I assume that you are talking about a pair of Canadian Geese? If they only have three eggs this is their first or second year of trying to raise babies. They usually don't start trying to lay and raise babies until they are four or five years old. Then by about the third season they have it figured out and start laying more eggs. I have had hens lay as many as 19 eggs in one nest. That was a pair of birds that we knew for sure were at least 13 years old because that was how long we owned them. If you decide to keep the babies and you pen them up you would need a federal permit to contain them. The interesting thing about Canadian Geese is that they will return to the place they were hatched… [cont.]

How do i make sure my chickens eggs hatch?
Q. I've quite recently bought 3 hens and a cockerel. The hens are young around a few months old i think according to the farmer. The eggs that they have laid are small but we've kept them and the hens are still laying. How long will it take for the eggs to hatch and the hens to start sitting on them? will they sit on them at all? and will i need an incubator or should leaving the hens to their natural things be better? also i was wondering how to make the hens's eggs bigger than the size they are now? i feed them pellets and rice and have looked up the type apparently they are shaver reds, dunno if this helps? thanks
Asked by ac125 - Sun Apr 27 13:14:53 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The small eggs you are getting now are known as pullet eggs. It shouldn't be long before your girls fully mature and start laying full size eggs. Most commercial laying breeds have had most of their broodiness bred out of them. This means they are not good at sitting on the eggs and an incubator would be recommended for hatching. The shaver reds are a red sex link breed. This means they are a cross bred chicken developed for egg production. Because they are crossbred the chicks that hatch from their eggs might not be similar to the parents.

A. nice question,,1st thing to do is to do nothing.just let the parent birds do the work, they know whats best for the chicks. just give them plenty of good food and regular water change daily. for added nutrition for the chicks, give the parents dry hand feeding formulas that you can buy at your local pet shop.do not mix them with water, let the parents do the feeding. hand rearing should only be done if and only if the parents cannot take care for them..enjoy your tiels!!!

Can maine lobster eggs hatch in a tank?
Q. I currently have a salt water tank for crab and lobsters. I have found out that one of the lobsters has eggs. I put the lobster in a separate tank and saw many many green eggs all on the bottom of the tank. My question is, is it possible for the eggs to hatch? The type of lobster is the Maine Lobster.

A. Sorry, those eggs are dead. The eggs would normally remain attached to the females underside. She keeps them well oxygenated by moving those small appendages along the underside of the tail. Most likely the trauma of capture caused her to release the eggs and they died. Another clue is that you stated the eggs are green. normally they would start off white and as they matured would get darker, certainly not green. Or possibly they were not fertile

How long does it take for duck eggs to hatch... Does the mother duck have to sit on the eggs continously....?
Q. Do all the eggs hatch at the same time.?? Our mother duck is sitting behind our climatis vine.

A. Most ducks take 28 days to hatch from the time the momma starts sitting on them.(Muscovy's take 35 days)Sometimes they can take up to three days for all the eggs to hatch once they start .She will sit all but a few minutes out of the day during which time she will eat and drink.Make sure her food and water are close enough for her to get to it without having to go far as she will not like to get very far away. Also this nesting time is when they are really a likely meal for a predator.Make sure she is protected if you can.

Q. i have duck eggs that ive had for a while and they havent hatched yet...how long does it take to hatch?

A. It takes 28 days. ( except muscovies ). If it has been more than that and they haven't pipped I am guessing either they weren't fertile or they didn't have the right temperature during incubation or the right humidity or you didn't turn them.

A. post your eggs on fansites. you can click on your eggs yourself, and it will count once every 24 ours. you don't really need the clicks for them to hatch but it helps. try these fansites- www.eggswilldragons.com www.sotidragon.com www.jadedestiny.com

A. Usually one will hatch then the other a few days later. I would give a few more days but if the bird is still laying on egg dont take it away wait and see what happens.
