How long does it take for Peking ducks eggs to hatch?
Q. I found a guinea hen egg and a duck egg right next to each other about 3 days ago. I brought them inside and put them under a heat lamp. I was just wondering how long it will take for them to hatch.

A. First off,how do you know that they are fertile eggs? To simply take an egg and put it under a heat lamp does not mean that you will hatch out anything because it has to be fertile. Do you have a Guinea Rooster or a Pekin Drake? I can only assume that a Guinea egg will take about as long as a regular chicken egg which is 21 days. A Pekin duck egg will take 28 days. You will have to maintain the heat with some humidty at no less than 95 degrees and you will have to turn the eggs a minimum of 2 times daily until the last 2 days prior to hatching as this is when the chick/duckling are postioning theirselves for hatching. You can incubate the eggs for approx 7 days and then "candle" them to see if you are incubating a fertile… [cont.]

What do Mallard Ducks Look Like When They Hatch?
Q. What do Mallard Ducks Look Like When They Hatch? Actually, what they look like when they start to come out of the shell? I am not sure if it is alive or not, but my family has me watching over some duck eggs that got abondend (or took by an animal) their mother. One scared me, because it was like it might be coming through the shell and you can see some of it (gooey stuff covering) it and the shell broke like a small explosion. If anyone knows anything about them, I would appreciate any input. Thank you in advance. I did not mean it scared me. What I meant was it startled me when I heard the noise. How long do ducks sit on eggs before they hatch,?
Q. My duck Jill is sitting on about 14 eggs, when will they hatch, and will they all hatch at the same times, how will l know when they will be hatched.
Asked by jewelsnz - Sun Oct 8 22:05:39 2006 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Duck eggs need to be incubated for 28 days. That is 28 days from the time she starts sitting on them. It may take her a couple of weeks to lay enough eggs for her to start sitting. When she feels that her clutch (group of eggs) is the right size, she will start sitting. Wait for 28 days. Any eggs that are not hatched after 35 days are probably bad. Throw them away. If she moves an egg out of her clutch then it is bad. Do not try to put it back. bad does not necessarily mean rotten. It may just not be fertilized. There is a drake in the flock, right?

A. Within 24 hours of hatching, the mother duck should march her babies to the water. Sometimes, she will take them as much as a mile away from shere they hatched. If you have water (pond, lake, stream) on your property, the ducks could stick around until autumn.

Does any one know how to hatch a duck egg?
Q. I found a duck egg on the cement by my pool. I want to know if anyone knows how to hatch the egg without an incubator? I know the egg is fresh and fertile cause the ducks laid it today. A. Since you found the duck egg abandoned, the mother probabyly didn't want the egg. It may not have been alive, or its not fertile. If you want to see if it will hatch, keep it an incubator. Thats a good way to hatch eggs. If you don't have an incubator, keep it under a heat lamp, with warm blankets around it. And also if you use a heat lamp, get a damp cloth and put it around the duck egg, but not touching it. And if you dont' have a heat lamp (I'm pretty sure everyone has a heat lamp) use a heat blanket. Use a method called candling. Candling is when you get a bright light (such as a flash light) and shine it as close as possible to the duck egg. Okay so put the flashlight under the duck egg in a dark dark room, and you should be able to… [cont.]

A. That is part of their courtship. Actually mating is a little different. If they are male and female and you leave them to their business then there is a good chance the hen will set and hatch the eggs. The key thing is to leave her alone. Provide her with a few good nesting sites and she will take care of the rest. Also I have no idea where you got your ducks but you should make sure they are not related before encouraging hatching the young.

A. You really need an incubator, eggs need the correct humidity. And eggs need to be turned 3x daily unless you have an automatic turner with the incubator. If they aren't kept at 100 degree and 85% humidity, the eggs will probably die. The humidity keeps the membranes from sticking to the egg and this traps the baby duck in the egg and then it dies. Also the turning is very important, it can be done manually by putting and X on one side and 0 on the other side so you can keep track of turning them. If you dont do this the embyo will be born with deformities. I just learned all this now since I just had 5 ducklings born last night and this morning. As for the black tip, it doesn't sound good. Asked by C K - Fri Jun 30 23:03:07 2006 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You really shouldn't let ducklings swim without their mother. Ducks produce a special oil that allows them to stay afloat. In the wild, the mother's oil would get all over the ducklings when they were under her, making it safe for them to swim. Without their mother, they really need be kept out of 'over leg deep water' until they are about 6 weeks old. By then their oil gland should be developed much better. Ducklings, being babies, also tire easily, and can't swim as long as an adult duck. Pie pans make great little "bath tubs" for ducklings. It allows them to bathe without the real threat of drowning. A duck doesn't have to have deep water to bathe. But they should still be supervised in the shallow water to see that they don't get… [cont.]

A. I'm not absolutely sure about ducks, but I have chickens who've hatched eggs. They lay one egg a day, and they just go about their normal business and don't sit on the eggs until they've laid as many as the want to sit on. There have usually been 10 to 15 eggs, and only one or two of each clutch didn't hatch. That means that the first eggs that were laid didn't begin incubation for close to 2 weeks. I read that the eggs can remain viable for up to 3 weeks. Isn't that cool?? It's like suspended animation! Anyway, I think your ducks will be fine! Good luck!

You need to get an incubator and that will come with humidity rings that you put water in to keep the humidity level right. get an egg turner too. Heat lamps dont work, no matter what people say a heat lamp wont work, it cant keep a temperature or 99.5 F and you cant use water for humidity with a heat lamp because the water will evaporate onto the light bulb and the light bulb will explode. what do you mean by stages an egg takes?? well the inside the egg the embryo starts developing. at 7 days old you will be able to see little veins protruding from the embryo. at 14 days you will be able to see the… [cont.]

A. For imprinting, the best way is to be there when they hatch, so you are the first thing that they see. Birds pick the first moving thing they see as their mother, whether it be a dog, goat, or human. We had a poor goose that thought he was a chicken. As for tricks- the other answer seems a good idea to me.

do i need an incubator to hatch duck eggs?
Q. i know incubators cost some money but cant i just heat it like in Fly Away Home?
Asked by Malina F. - Fri Feb 22 22:56:11 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes it is possible to incubate eggs without an incubator. But don't base this off a movie. Incubating eggs under a light is a hard job. Keeping the temperature correct isn't the battle. Keeping the humidity correct is another story. Lights cause excessive dehydration of the eggs. What this means is the eggs evaporate to much water and the embryo inside dies. Duck eggs require around 80% relative humidity. As well the incubation temperature is 100 degrees. The trouble with lights is you will lose more chicks then you hatch. You can make a home made incubator but again it is tricky. Styrofoam incubators cost around 50 dollars. Every incubator has its own quirks to it. Once you figure them out the rest isn't to hard. I hatch nearly 200 eggs… [cont.]

A. First off make sure the temperature is 98-100 degrees. Add luke warm warm water to the water rings. Make sure if it goes low fill it back up. Place an (X) and an (O) on each side and put the date on you put them in. Place them in carfully. Turn them 3 times a day. Should turn them every 8 hrs or so. It takes 28 days for ducks to hatch. So 3 days befor they hatch STOP turnong the eggs. You can spray the eggs with a mist every once in a while or couple days, because thats what mom does in the wid. dont ever help them out of the egg. Let them dry completely befor you get them and move them. You need to make a brooder. The brooder is very simple and great for teh ducklings first couple weeks of life. It should be big enuff for as many as you… [cont.]

How long do ducks leave their eggs alone for?
Q. How long do mallard ducks leave their eggs alone for? I have a mother mallard duck hatching seven eggs. The eggs haven't hatched yet but the Terminex guy/bug man came and scared her! My sister through something at the door and the duck ran away! It's been 2 and a half hours, and she already went hunting today so I don't know what happened! Her eggs are just sitting there! How long should I wait before calling the bird people? Or moving the eggs? Help! Quick!

A. Just leave the nest alone and keep everyone out of sight - the mother duck should return when she no longer feels threatened. If she can still see people around the nest area, she will not return. The eggs can be left alone for quite some time - if the mother duck has not laid all of her eggs yet, incubation hasn't even started. It would be safe for her to be off the nest for several days in that case. If you have seen her actively incubating the eggs and she has not returned in 24 hours, you need to contact the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Division of Migratory Bird Management (I am assuming that this is a wild mallard). They will either take the eggs or put you in touch with someone who is licensed to have the eggs, so you can… [cont.]

Vote: Add rating 1 Subtract rating ... What I mean is whereas the Panamera looks like a 911 that's been stretched out of proportion.. the A5 sportback looks like an A3 . hatch. [which is what it is - a hatchback ]that's also been stretched out of proportion ...
