can I fill up humidity trays while ducks hatch?
Q. Ok my ducks are overdue by 1 day they are still wobbling but I think the tray might now be full enough if I open incubator and fill it up will it lower the chances of hatching?
Asked by Mike - Sun Jun 6 20:27:05 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No it won't hurt to do that. If your ducks are over due by one day..beware, they may need to be helped out very soon, or they could be born crippled or worse, die in the egg. Ducks take 28 days to hatch. 29 is too long, 30 is very dangerous. Good luck.

Will ducks inbreed? If they do will it hurt or disfigure the babies they hatch?
Q. I only have 2 male drakes and I have 6 female ducks. They are all laying eggs and the females are sitting. When they hatch the eggs will I have to get rid of the babies to keep the male drakes from breeding with them? If they did breed would it hurt the eggs they hatched off, by being disfigured?
Asked by crazygirlwondering - Mon May 22 17:25:51 2006 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The biggest problem with the flock-breeding approach is it's impossible to control inbreeding due to their polygamous nature. In North America, inbreeding, at least with cousins, has been inevitable. Unlike other species I haven't observed any obvious weakening, neurological problems or characteristic changes as a result. Q. My duck Jill is sitting on about 14 eggs, when will they hatch, and will they all hatch at the same times, how will l know when they will be hatched.
Asked by jewelsnz - Sun Oct 8 22:05:39 2006 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Duck eggs need to be incubated for 28 days. That is 28 days from the time she starts sitting on them. It may take her a couple of weeks to lay enough eggs for her to start sitting. When she feels that her clutch (group of eggs) is the right size, she will start sitting. Wait for 28 days. Any eggs that are not hatched after 35 days are probably bad. Throw them away. If she moves an egg out of her clutch then it is bad. Do not try to put it back. bad does not necessarily mean rotten. It may just not be fertilized. There is a drake in the flock, right?

A. It takes about 28 days for duck eggs to hatch. if they are Muscovy ducks then they will take 35 days to hatch Ducks do lay eggs in the summer,in fact they lay all year round. but they lay more eggs in spring to summer but It is preferable for them to incubate the eggs in the spring If you want to hatch ducklings the mother will sit on them if she has about 12 eggs in her nest it doesn't really matter what time of the year it is. I have already answered your other question like this one I hope I have been of some help to you :-)

Q. Ducklings in our backyard just hatched this morning and I was wondering how long they would stay there.
Asked by falulah - Fri Apr 25 23:33:10 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Within 24 hours of hatching, the mother duck should march her babies to the water. Sometimes, she will take them as much as a mile away from shere they hatched. If you have water (pond, lake, stream) on your property, the ducks could stick around until autumn.

A. There is no chance of it hatching even if you found the nest it came from ,the young bird in it will be dead. Incidentally a floating egg means that there is a possbley a young one inside. All you can do is Bin it. be careful you don't break it because the can create a stink.

Q. Do ducks hatch ducklings without a male ducks?
Asked by Olga A - Mon Jun 8 18:25:50 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Without a drake to fertilize eggs, you just have really great eggs for baking with, provided you gather them daily. The duck hen can and will get "broody" without a drake around and she will "set" a nest. However, it's all in vain, unless there's been a drake sneaking in from the skies and flying away before being detected. Don Juan ducks do exist, so anything is possible, but in your case, doubtful. Q. I am definitely planing on hatching duck eggs very soon. i need to make the incubator and then i will buy them. I was wondering if there were some good places to get the eggs. i've found some online. So i have some questions Question #1. Where should I get the eggs? Also Location? Question #2. Do they ship? Question #3. How do they ship the eggs if they need to keep warm? Thanks!
Asked by nick j is off the chain - Mon Mar 30 16:18:41 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Murray McMurry hatchery will ship duck eggs, but they are not cheap. And there is no guarantee that you will be able to make them hatch. Try looking for ducklings at your local feed store. They would have everything you would need. Buying a duckling is a sure thing. Eggs may not hatch. Edit: they don't have to be warm.

A. Not positive. But, I think they similar to a Chicken, so, 28 Days. Keep them a little Chopped corn out, or, just make them some corn bread and crumble. Keep fresh water close. You can try other canned foods too; Green Beans, Corn, Northern Beans and Spinach are just a few.

A. Aww that's so cute! Yes, A duck egg can hatch that way. Make sure you keep a eye on it though. You need to have a brooder ready, and also what would be very cute is if you keep by the egg till it hatches then if it sees you first then he/she will follow you whereever you go. I will do that someday. :) Have fun! I hope this helps! Annamarie

Ok on the 28th day of duck hatching do the baby ducks move in the egg?
Q. Because a friend of mines mom told me that on the day before hatching the baby duck doesnt move because it is saving it energy. Is this Correct and please explain?
Asked by Amber D - Tue Jul 22 14:46:16 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Incorrect... The egg can actually move 6 days befor it hatches. SOmetimes 8. It all depends on the egg. Most move 3-8 days befor hatch. They move slightly. And more 3 days befor hatch to get to hatching position. And to pip through the egg. They can pip through the egg on hatching day also 3 days befor hatch. They do rest frequently butr then go at it to pip and to get in th hatching position. I own many ducks and have hatched many as well.

A. No, the female hatches the eggs in most species. There is at least one species of waterfowl (I don't recall its name) where the female lays the eggs, and the male sits on them while the female goes off to find another mate and start another clutch of eggs. But this is unusual.

Asked by razgriz009 - Tue Mar 25 07:59:42 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You will be vary disapointed when you try to use a heat lamp for hatching any poultry egg. You need to get a good sized incubator. You need to get an incubator and that will come with humidity rings that you put water in to keep the humidity level right. get an egg turner too. Heat lamps dont work, no matter what people say a heat lamp wont work, it cant keep a temperature or 99.5 F and you cant use water for humidity with a heat lamp because the water will evaporate onto the light bulb and the light bulb will explode. what do you mean by stages an egg takes?? well the inside the egg the embryo starts developing. at 7 days old you will be able to see little veins protruding from the embryo. at 14 days you will be able to see the… [cont.]
