A. Baby birds freeze easily, key word is EASILY they need a hot lamp over them. I suppose you could chance it with a few desk lamps over them. You'll be better off renting an incubator though

female African love bird flew left male w/ her eggs. can we get an incubator to have the eggs hatched?
Q. or is it possible to get another female love bird to pair with the left male so we can have new eggs?

A. If your female had begun to incubate the eggs ( consistently keep them at a temperature ) and now they have gone cold the chicks inside would die. The window of opportunity is usually only around 20 mins for a female to be off her eggs. If this is the case, you may as well throw the eggs away.

What Do I Do If My Wild Bird Egg Hatches?
Q. how do i look after a wild bird i dont have an incubator but i have made a nest and box and it is kept warm daily, i candled it and ther is sumthink inside it, i have no idea how old the egg is but im going to be really confues wen and if it hatches!! im from england!

A. It probably wont hatch. If it does you should try to find a wild animal rescue that will know what to do with a day old baby bird. Or a vet. If you cant find one, you will need Kaytee brand bird formula called "Exact". (They have it here in the US, but I don't know about the UK...) You will need to hand-feed it many times a day with a small syringe. Don't get your hopes up though... bird eggs are difficult to hatch. Here is a list of wild animal rescues in England:

A. ok.listen.the temperature is quite simple.its only supposed to be 97-98 degrease Fahrenheit. this is including after they hatch. they must stay warm until they have feathers of their own. they cannot go for more than 4 hours without that heat.ok?ok.

what will I do with the eggs of my peach face bird who recently died this morning?
Q. I have two set of pairs peach face bird, and lutino...Since I am breeding them they are in the different cages though there cage is somewhat connected to each other. They lay eggs almost at the same time. Unfortunately this morning when I check the birds the other one died. What shall I do with the eggs? There is no incubator who can hatch the egg. Would it be possible that I can mix the eggs with the other who have recently hatch the egg. Tnxs for the information.

A. Hey Sunlight Too bad your love bird died. The eggs could be transferred into the other box, where the new babies hatched. They will be going to waist,if not properly incubated .They will take 21 days until they hatch, this will be almost the time needed by your feeding parents to rear the existing babies. To avoid the incident you just describe ,it is advisable to offer your breeders some form of a Calcium supplement in their diet, specially hens have a tendency of becoming egg bound (that is when they can't pass the egg),and that is due to lack of Calcium in their diet.If your birds have access o direct sun light, they would be able to produce their own Calcium out of the green stuffs you give them, like kale,or collard greens, may be broccoli. A. Exactly where did you find the eggs...in a nest? If so..put them back immediately..as in many species the males will also incubate eggs. He may still be tending to the nest. If this is not the case and the eggs have sat for a long time without being incubated...then they are dead and there is nothing you can do for them. Also, it is illegal for you to have taken these eggs..in either case..but them back where you found them.

How do I make a incubator/brooder for Cockateil?
Q. My cockateil started laying eggs. Her and Dad were sitting. Mom laid egg #5 and then died. (Egg Binding problems?) Have Exact to feed and syringe etc. How can I make an Incubator and Brooder or is there another way I can help out Dad? Grandma gave me the birds and she thought they were not a mated pair. Surprise!

A. You're lucky that both cockatiel parents sit on their eggs :-) . Dad will do the job himself, but there's any problems, you can make a quick incubator/brooder by using an old aquarium or plastic critter keeper. What you need is listed below: **Tuna can or small animal food bowl. Keep filled with water. Used if the eggs need incubating. **Reptile substrate warmer. Keep this under 1/2 the critter keeper so if babies get hot they can move about. ** Milk carton with one of the long sides cut out. Lined with paper towel and used when the babies hatch. I find this helps the babies stay warmer if they're very young. **Towel to put over the kritter keeper. **A reptile themometer and a Hygrometer **Very important!!** . This helps you keep… [cont.]

My first guess would be that you need to go to your local Farm Fleet store and see if you can get a new humidity controller or lighting system. If the brand of incubator that you have is still being made, you might also be able to contact the manufacturer to inquire about replacement parts or ask them what might be wrong. If these two suggestions do not work, you might consider making your own incubator, with some of the parts that you already have. Will my bird be alright?!?

A. Im terribly sorry... How far did it fall? If it only fell 30 centimeters to a meter, it MIGHT be ok. Here's a way to tell if it is alive: Candling: Find a flashlight. Hold the egg up to the flashlight. Shine it through. What do you see? Fertile: If you see red veins, and a possibly moving black dot, it is ok. Infertile: If the egg is clear, with a black non moving dot, im sorry but it is dead. By the way, when you found it, was it warm? Or a little warm? If not, there's a good possibility it is dead.

Q. Well my 2 love birds are in the same cage and the female has laid 5 eggs in the past, the last 2 splat, then she had 3 more, they went one by one, cracking or being eaten. why is the mommy doing this to her eggs ?also if i get them once laid can i put them in an incubator, if so what temperature they need? thanks.

A. Do you not have a Nest box for them to lay their eggs in?? To be successful they "Must" have a nest box, have you got a true pair.? To hatch your eggs in an incubator requires the knowledge of what you are doing ,not only that you need "experience" to hand rear young and you do not have this . So try a nest box first ,you can buy these from any Pet store and some can be fit to the outside of a cage if it is not big enough and from what I gather your bird is laying on the bottom of the cage and maybe dropping them from the perch. So if you really want to have success ,get a nest box.

What should I do with my macaws egg?
Q. I have a blue and gold macaw that has layed three eggs so far(the first two were destroyed by the male macaw), after this last egg was layed I took the male away and separated him...Do I hatch the egg with an incubator or let the mother hatch it? Do I keep the male (father) away or put him back and if I put him away for how long? Does the mother bird need any spesific food or shelter? This has never happened and I want to keep the egg to hatch if possible. Please help ohh the egg is only hours old and currently the mother is sitting on it.

A. Why did you pull the male? If the cage is not big enough eggs will get broken, make sure the cage is big enough and replace the male with the hen. For right now you need to let the hen have the egg to hatch it out. Apparently you don't know what you are doing and the last thing you need to do is have more birds filling up the rescues. Place the egg back with the hen and let her do what she needs to do. You can't properly turn the egg like the hen can. Meanwhile work on getting a bigger cage to properly house both macaws. Good Luck!
