Manufacturing is the use of machines, tools and labor to make things for use or sale. The term may refer to a range of human activity, from handicraft to high tech, but is most commonly applied to industrial production, in which raw materials are transformed into finished goods on a large scale. Such finished goods may be used for manufacturing other, more complex products, such as household appliances or automobiles, or sold to wholesalers, who in turn sell them to retailers, who then sell them to end users - the "consumers". Manufacturing takes turns under all types of economic systems. In a free market economy, manufacturing is usually directed toward the mass production of products for sale to consumers at a profit. In a collectivist economy, manufacturing is more frequently directed by the state to supply a centrally planned economy. In free market economies, manufacturing occurs under some degree of government regulation. Modern manufacturing includes all intermediate processes required for the production and integration of a product's components. Some industries, such as semiconductor and steel manufacturers use the term fabrication instead. The manufacturing sector is closely connected with engineering and industrial design. Examples of major manufacturers in the United States include General Motors Corporation, Ford Motor Company, Chrysler, Boeing, Gates Rubber Company and Pfizer. Examples in Europe include Airbus, Daimler, BMW, Fiat, and Michelin Tyre. From Wikipedia under the

How do I find a reputable manufacturer? Q. I am familiar with the process of manufacturing apparel. I would like to produce a line of jewelry. Any suggestions on a reputable manufacturer would be greatly appreciated. The line will consist mainly of white and yellow gold necklaces and bracelets. Thanks! Asked by newstart - Fri May 4 16:06:48 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. This would be like manufacturing a line of clothes, but you would be financing your own designs for your company. You could look around for a partner to help with the costs. Many universities have classes that students major in Art and jewelry making and designing. Or you could see if a jeweler would help in the making. Q. I live in a town of apprx: 6,000 and our town has three that at one time collectively employed apprx. 600-700 people. Why has been war been declared on the manufacturing families of the United States? If this is this bad in my town how bad is it all across our country? Asked by Kelly B - Mon Oct 8 21:07:28 2007 - - 15 Answers - 0 Comments A. I live out in the country but towns around here use to have glass plants, textile plants, all kinds of stuff. Soon after Nafta was signed most closed and went to Mexico and now I hear they have closed in Mexico and are now in China or India. You will never have any kind of factories in this country again if every law that has been passed in the last 20 years is not reversed and that means getting rid of the Republicans and Democrats because they do not work for you. They work for the lobbyist and as long as Corporations can build it with cheap labor and dump it in our market and pay no taxes and the politicians take their money it won't change. Face it USA we are going to have to go 3rd party canidates that actually work for us. Q. I want to find out what is the most contested issue today regarding outsourcing a process to other countries? A process for example: manufacturing of a product or providing a service. Could it be a) Quality, b) Security, or c) the effect on US economy? Do you have another issue? I am conducting this study in order to narrow my research (thesis) and help my readers (US manufacturers) develop the most effective controls of outsourced practices. Your experience(s) are also welcomed. Asked by mongoqa - Sun Jun 3 16:51:59 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. While this may not be what you are looking for, I feel that this is the most difficult issue in the outsourcing situation. From working in the automotive manufacturing capital of the US, I believe the most hotly contested issue is definitely the problems that result here in the US when the jobs leave our country. One factor that might be interesting for you to research would be in the automotive industry supply chain and its ripple effect on the economy as these jobs move out of the US. Not only are the Big 3 (Ford, Chrysler, and GM) losing jobs, but the contracts they use with their suppliers are very unfair to the suppliers. In the automotive manufacturing business, there is a beast known as the QS-9000 and TS:16949 Quality Control… [cont.] Answered by Searcher's Curious Account - Sun Jun 3 17:55:26 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Manufacturing"
