PRO includes proper domain security. You need to set up user names and passwords on all the machines. You then need to set these users to be allowed to access the shares on them. If you duplicate the names and passwords then logging in to any machine as that user should save you re-entering them for network browsing. Answered by Colinc - Thu May 3 23:37:43 2007 If a computer/laptop is on standby, will its shared network resources still be usable? Q. My computer is on for 16.5 hours every day! It automatically turns on at 6 AM and turns off at 10:30 PM. I am making an attempt to go green, therefore, what methods can I use to reduce the amount of electricity my computer uses everyday? One of the things I thought about was putting it on standby which uses up less electricity, however, because this computer hosts websites and does a bunch of other stuff - network related - it should not be turned off; which leads me to ask, if a computer/laptop is on standby, will its shared network resources & drives still be accessible? If not, what other methods can I use to reduce the amount of electricity my computer uses up? Thanks in advance! Standby, Sleep, Hibernate .. Whichever one.. Q. Actually, it's my boss who is having this problem and I'm trying to help him out. He had this before and I was able to help him. He's using a wireless card in his laptop to connect to our corporate VPN through his wireless router. Cisco client version 4.6. He can connect to the VPN. The login succeeds with no error messages, but he cannot browse any network resources. I've had him make PING attempts at various network servers and none of the pings work (was using IP addresses, not domain names, to rule out DNS issues). Any idears? Supposedly, no network settings were changed after he installed his new wireless NIC. Asked by palmbaychuck - Mon Nov 20 08:48:25 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. could be the routers firewall is blocking vpn access. Wireless security settings are different than wired so log into the router and see if theres a way to either make an exception for vpn or turn off the firewall, your on a secured network anyways so it shouldn't be a problem. Also be sure that the laptop is also not blocking vpn through the wireless connection firewall settings. You may need to manually open up certain ports to allow access and that really sounds like it may be going beyond the scope of what you know so if turning on exceptions and allowing vpn doesn't resolve the issue you'll need to get a hold of the corporate IT guy for any additional settings changes.
